Course Content

The 35 hours of approved LGV Driver CPC periodic training takes place each calendar month at the driver cpc training centre in Llanishen, North Cardiff.

Each driver CPC training day is for a duration of 8 hours, of which 7 hours is approved LGV Driver CPC periodic training with the remaining time being broken up into 2 x 15 minute breaks and 1 x 30 minute lunch break.

A summary of daily driver CPC course content is outlined below:

Day 1 Tacomaster (Drivers Hours)

Description

  • To explain the laws governing driver’s hours.
  • To highlight a driver’s responsibilities under those laws.
  • To explain which records must be kept for DVSA.
  • To recognise the differences between types of tachographs units

Day 2 Keeping You and Your Load Safe

Description

  • To outline and understand the principles of Dynamic Risk Assessment
  • To highlight and understand a driver’s responsibilities under DVSA
  • To identify the correct methods for safe loading a vehicle
  • To highlight and understand the potential harm caused through poor manual handling techniques

Day 3 Staying in the green (Eco-driving)

Description

  • To outline the principles of Dynamic Risk Assessment
  • To identify the benefits to you of safe and fuel efficient driving
  • To identify how your driving style influences your Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • To highlight how telematics can help you to be a safer and more fuel efficient driver

Day 4 Who’s in whose blind spot (VRU)

Description

  • To identify what’s in your blind spot at various times of the day
  • To identify why you could be in other road user’s blind spot
  • To highlight that you’re a vulnerable road user
  • To gain awareness of all types of Vulnerable Road User, gaining knowledge of how best to approach and what to do in the event of a road traffic collision

Day 5 Protecting the Brand (Customer care)

Description

  • To identify who your customers are and the level of service you give
  • To analyse the impact of poor behaviour and how it affects reputation and brand
  • To improve service through improved communication and listening to feedback
  • To get it right first time, every time
