Driver CPC Exemptions

When you don’t need Driver CPC

You might not need Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC), even if you are driving a large goods vehicle or passenger carrying vehicle.

The requirement for a Driver CPC qualification card will depend on the type of vehicle and what the vehicle is being used for.

Please be aware you can be fined up to £1,000.00 for driving professionally without holding a valid Driver CPC qualification.

The Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) have produced various examples of when they believe a Driver CPC qualification may, or may not, be required.

Examples from the DVSA can be found on the link below:

Big Wheelers (South Wales) Limited are not able to provide any legal advice when it comes to the rules, regulations, or requirements for an individual or organisation to hold, or not hold a Driver CPC qualification.

If in any doubt we would strongly advise you to seek legal advice as only a court can make a decision on Driver CPC rules
